Christy Rozella Hill, 62, passed away October 8, 2012 following a long illness. She was born October 28, 1949 in Crescent City, Calif., the oldest daughter of parents Pete and Sally Mullen. She moved to Southern Oregon in the early '70s and for the past 30 years resided in White City.
Chris worked hard throughout her life; following graduation from Del Norte County High School she began as a cook at Rowland's restaurant in Crescent City. After moving to Grants Pass she worked for many years at Southern Oregon Plywood. When the mill closed, she found work as a school cook in the Eagle Point School District and in later years worked as a home health provider to many in Southern Oregon.
She and Allan raised their grandchildren, supporting them through years of FFA, horse shows, and camping adventures at their 100-year-old log cabin near Prospect, Ore. Chris loved to cook for a crowd and we fondly remember Al and Chris's epic pig roasts and other gatherings hosted for family and their wide circle of friends.
Through her long battle with breast cancer, her positive outlook and courage has been a source of inspiration to all who knew her. She was a strong woman, a farm-girl at heart, cut from the same mold as her Irish ancestors who homesteaded in Iowa in the mid-1800s. Behind it all was a big heart and lots of love. We will miss her sage advice and her ability to remain positive even when facing life's toughest challenges.
Her husband, Allan, her loving partner of 30 years survives Chris. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Jennifer Lile; sisters, Candy (Dale) Bretschneider, of Mercer Island, Wash. and Margy Mullen, of Gold Hill, Ore.; nephew, Sean (Keri) Bretschneider; his children Clare, Tessa, Leo, and Gemma, of Eugene, Ore.; and many cherished cousins and friends.
At Christy's request there will be no memorial service. If you wish, please contribute in her memory to the Susan B. Komen Fight for the Cure or other research organizations working to cure breast cancer.
