  • ASHLAND — Phoenix sophomore Nevina De Luca added to her racing success on Wednesday, winning the 17-team Phoenix 5k at Oak Knoll Golf Course.

  • ASHLAND — Phoenix sophomore Nevina De Luca added to her racing success on Wednesday, winning the 17-team Phoenix 5k at Oak Knoll Golf Course.
    De Luca, who has recorded six top-10 finishes at meets this season, finished the 5,000-meter race in 21 minutes, 8.3 seconds to top 81 other female runners.
    Etna senior John Whelan, last year's boys champion and the Phoenix 5k record holder, claimed first out of 127 with a time of 16:26.9.
    On the girls side, Mt. Shasta's Ellen Sampson was second (21:28), Ashland's Madeline Chaves third (21:48.7), Grants Pass' Charity Schmidt fourth (21:54.8) and Grants Pass' Tori Sigel fifth (21:57.8).
    New Hope Christian's Chris Merlos came in second place on the boys side, finishing in 17:44.4. St. Mary's Chris Martin was third (18:15.4), Mt. Shasta's Michael Cook fourth (18:21.3) and Ashland's Lars Ferguson-Rockwell fifth (18:31.4).
    Team scores were not kept.

    ROGUE RIVER 3, LOST RIVER 0 — At Merrill, Rogue River used several key serving stretches to down Lost River, 25-23, 25-11, 25-18 in nonleague action.
    Rylee Carter served out seven straight with her team trailing 23-18 in the first game. A set later, Skye Downhill recorded 11 consecutive serves to help the Chieftains (3-11) pull away.
    Kortney Moore registered 11 kills against Lost River (5-12).
