  • Vogel Plaza will be the staging area for the official brand launch of downtown Medford this Third Friday, Oct. 19. A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. will be followed with live music by The Syndicate and DJ Ike until 8 p.m.
    An "after-hours" party in celebration of the new brand will be from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Sparta Building, 401 E. Main St. DJ Ike will spin, the 17-piece Jazz Men big band will perform, Elements Tapas Bar & Lounge will cater and RoxyAnn Winery will pour.
    The party, open to adults 21 and older, is free, but reservations are required. See www.heartofmedford.com.
    Also happening Third Friday, Rogue Gallery & Art Center spotlights Rogue Valley artist and architect Bob Bosworth in a retrospective of works, showing through Friday, Nov. 9. The exhibit, curated by Nancy Jo Mullen, features paintings and photographs of architectural projects from his early professional years as well as several new, abstract, watercolor paintings. Most of the works are on loan from local and regional collectors.
    Bosworth is one of the gallery's founding members and a former professor at University of Oregon.
    There will be a reception, with treats from Harry & David and Rogue Creamery as well as wine from RoxyAnn Winery, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 40 S. Bartlett St. For more information, call 541-772-8118 or see www.roguegallery.org.
    Architect John David Duffié will present a free, multimedia talk, "An Architect's Architect," about Bosworth's local projects at 7 p.m. in Presentation Hall 132 of the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center, 101 S. Bartlett St. The Higher Education Center also will host a reception for award-winning wilderness photographer Sean Bagshaw from 5 to 7 p.m.
    Art du Jour will highlight floral watercolor and acrylic paintings by Georganne Happel as well as works by the rest of its gallery members, including Pat Blair, Ruthanne Bray, Millie Clarke, Cammy Davis, Margo Garnett, Dodie Hamilton, Gayle Gray, Ruth Heath, Judy Hubler, Boni de'Laire Kettering, Dixie Kinser, Yvonne Kitchen, Susie Lee, Ginny Matheson, Margery Mercer, Norm Rossignol, Robert Sharp, Dick Woods and Marilyn Zupan.
    An artists' reception with refreshments will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the gallery, 213 E. Main St. For more information, call 541-770-3190 or see www.artdujourgallery.com
    Several other downtown businesses and restaurants will be open and showing art for Third Friday.
    Parking in downtown Medford and in the parking structure on Sixth Street is free after 5 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.
