Taxi driver shot in head: autopsy

An autopsy performed on a taxi cab driver killed this weekend confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The autopsy was conducted by medical examiner Dr. James Olson, who said 58-year-old William Roy "Huey" Huson's death was a homicide.

The man suspected of killing Huson was seen about 10:40 p.m. Saturday entering Huson's Valley Cab car near Howiee's on Front Street in downtown Medford.

Huson's body was found early Sunday in a field off Helo Way, and investigators said he was shot in the head and robbed.

The possible suspect was described as a white male with fair complexion and a pock-marked face, about 25 to 35 years old, 6 feet 1 inch to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 170 to 190 pounds, police said.

He was last seen wearing a black ball cap, a black Carhartt-style coat and jeans.

Meanwhile, Medford police have received 80 tips in the case. The tips have kept detectives busy trying to keep up with the information trickling in, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said.

"Eighty tips is a lot for a high-profile case such as this," Budreau said. "Of course, we'd like to see more."

Most of the time a suspect is in custody shortly after a murder. Most homicide suspects are known to their victims, Budreau said.

"We don't have clear evidence that the suspect and victim in this case knew each other," Budreau said. "These kinds of cases are more difficult, but not impossible to solve."

Budreau said Huson's murder is one of Medford's most serious unsolved crimes in recent history.

"We still are seeking the public's help in this case," he said. "Please call us if you have information that you believe could be helpful."

Budreau said the department is looking to continue interviewing people who were in the nearby area when the suspect entered Huson's cab.
