"Welcome All Pleasures," a concert of classical choral music, will begin Southern Oregon Repertory Singers' 27th season. A show is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.

The choir, directed by Paul French, will present pieces by Henry Purcell, Gregorio Allegri, Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. They will be joined by a chamber ensemble of baroque-style instrumentalists.

Purcell is a 17th-century composer of a uniquely English form of baroque music. SORS will perform his passionate "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary: Funeral Sentences," along with the final act of his operatic "Dido and Aeneas," a tragic love story that combines French charm, Italian drama and English chorale.

Also featured will be Allegri's "Miserere Mei, Deus," a chorus from the second movement of Bach's Cantata 106 and Handel's "The King Shall Rejoice."

Ed Wight will give a preconcert lecture at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $20, $5 for students and Oregon Trail Card holders, and are available at Paddington Station and Music Coop in Ashland, Grocery Outlet in Medford, Great Northwest Music Co. in Grants Pass,, by calling 541-552-0900 or at the door.
