BOISE, Idaho — The Southern Oregon Spartans trailed 3-0 early in the second period and couldn't recover in a 6-2 loss to the Idaho Junior Steelheads in Western States Hockey League action Saturday.
Idaho controlled the puck and doubled up the Spartans on shots on goal (42-21) to pull away. The Junior Steelheads (10-0) led 5-1 through two periods.
Southern Oregon's Avik Bordak scored his team's first goal midway through the second period off assists from Joe Bordak and Eligah Bordak. The Spartans (6-6) trailed 6-1 when Nick Stirmel scored 12 minutes into the final period off an assist from Taylor McConnell.
Jake Webber had two goals to propel Idaho, which was 3-for-10 on power plays.
The two teams return to the ice again today to finish the three-game series.
