Helicopter logging project starts today

Forest thinning operations in the Ashland watershed started today.

The operation is part of the Ashland Forest Resiliency Project. A helicopter will haul logs to a landing on the watershed's west side, according to a news release.

Several trails will be closed during the work, including the No Candies Trail down to Granite Street, The Horn Gap, Ostrich Peak and Mystical trails. The Hitt Trail will also be closed at the city water tank above Strawberry Lane.

Granite Street at Glenview Drive also will be closed across from the Lithia swimming reservoir, as will the 2060-Ashland Loop Road at the junction of Horn Gap and No Candies Trails.
