The Cascade Christian girls soccer team defeated Illinois Valley 3-0 on Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Community Park to lock up the Southern Cascade Hybrid's third and final state playoff berth.
The Cougars (5-8, 2-6 SCH) needed a victory to finish tied with the Challengers (9-5-1, 4-4 SCH) in the league standings.
Ali Spani, Katelyn Stephens and Jolee Rivas scored for Cascade Christian, which led 1-0 at halftime.
Spani's goal came from about six yards out on a Katelyn Fitch assist in the 21st minute, and Stephens made it 2-0 with a solo effort in the 65th minute.
Rivas scored after dribbling up from the midfield mark in the 68th minute, giving the Challengers their 3-0 advantage.
Goalkeeper Jessica Weber earned the shutout with the help of defenders MaKenzie Hickman, Jillian Emard, Kelly Bales and Sandie Shelton.
"When the defense was called upon they played very cohesive," Cascade Christian head coach Mick Power said.
GLIDE 12, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Glide, Kali Vickery scored four goals for Glide in Southern Cascade Hybrid action.
Caroline Brown, Danielle Schlager and Kaitlyn Vian had two goals apiece for the Wildcats (11-2, 6-2 SCH).
Wing Sequoia Poston played strong for Rogue River (0-10-1, 0-8 SCH).
SHELDON 2, CRATER 0 — At Eugene, Taylor Carman scored two first-half goals for Sheldon in the Class 6A state play-in match.
Sweeper Abby Gray and midfielders Jordan Hevern and Jaime Dirksen played strong for Crater (1-13-1), which lost to the Irish (7-6-2) 8-0 on Sept. 4.
GRANTS PASS 4, FOREST GROVE 1 — At Grants Pass, Heidi Strand had two goals and Brooke Blacksmith and Jessica Jordan each scored one for Grants Pass in the Class 6A state play-in match.
The Cavers (5-6-4) led 2-0 at halftime against Forest Grove (6-7-2).
ASHLAND 4, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Ashland, Sophonie Graham, Sarah Honeywell, Samantha Lilley and Kasydie Winner each scored a goal for Ashland to help the Grizzlies claim the two-team Class 5A Southern Oregon Hybrid.
The Grizzlies (8-5-1, 2-0 SOH) also beat the Eagles (1-9-2, 0-2 SOH) 4-0 on Oct. 18.
Sophonie Graham's goal came off an Aspen Wolff assist in the 20th minute. Honeywell scored on a Wolff pass in the 51st, Lilley made it 3-0 on an assist from Faci Graham in the 55th and Winner capped the scoring three minutes later.
Ashland's Geraldine Graham and Sophonie Graham shared the shutout in-goal.
