Hunters being rescued after bear attack

Search and rescue teams have located two men who were hunting in the area of Elk Creek Road in Trail today and were injured by a bear they thought was dead.

About 2:40 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Oregon State Police game troopers were notified that two men had been dragging a bear they shot when the bear suddenly awakened and attacked one of the men. He was reportedly injured in the foot, right hand, right arm and groin.

The hunters have killed the bear, sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said.

Searchers on the ground and a Mercy Flights helicopter were sent to find the hunters.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
