Ashland police hunt for man who threatened hotel employee with gun

Ashland police are looking for a man who reportedly pointed a gun at a housekeeper at Plaza Hotel on Central Street in downtown Ashland this morning.

The confrontation was reported at 10 a.m. The hotel employee told police that she was approached by a man inside the hotel who pointed a handgun at her and threatened her. She ran and called police.

Officers from Ashland police and other agencies evacuated guests and searched the hotel and surrounding area, police said. The downtown area was thoroughly checked, and information about the incident was sent to all police agencies in Jackson County.

The man hasn't been found.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a goatee. He was wearing a long black coat with a hood, a dark baseball cap and sunglasses.

Police ask that anyone seeing a person matching this description call 911 immediately.
