A 43-year-old man who police said broke into an east Medford house early Tuesday morning and stole a computer while its owner was asleep was arrested after later breaking into a nearby shed, police said.
The owner of the shed in the 1300 block of Fortune Avenue scared away Bobby Joe McNatt, 43, who was arrested while fleeing the scene on a bicycle at 1:20 a.m., according to Medford police.
When taken into custody, McNatt was found in possession of methamphetamine and a laptop that was later traced to a residence in the 500 block of nearby Eastwood Drive, police said. McNatt allegedly entered the residence through an unlocked back door and stole the $2,000 computer without those sleeping in the residence knowing he was there, police said.
Other property was seized from McNatt but those items were not possessions of the two known victims, leading investigators to believe he was responsible for additional thefts in the area, police said.
McNatt, who has no known address, was taken into custody on charges of first- and second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, possession of methamphetamine and second-degree trespass.
He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained Tuesday on $103,000 bail.
