Former Medford resident, Howard James Wood, 84, of Turner, Ore. passed away October 28, 2012, in Salem, Ore.

He was born March 11, 1928, in Corvallis to Rufus and Agnes Wood. He was raised in Oregon City where he graduated from high school. In 1946 and 1947, he served with the U.S. Army in occupied Japan. On Oct. 16, 1954, he married Ruth Newton who survives. Following graduation from Boise Bible College in 1984, he ministered at Star Christian Church in Idaho, Gold Hill Christian Church, and was associate minister at Redwood Christian Church in Grants Pass before retiring in 1994. For 14 years, in the 1960s and early '70s, he worked as chief draftsman for Jackson County and also worked in the Assessor's Offices in Clackamas and Marion Counties for a total of 30 years.

He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus, his family, his church, sports, woodworking, singing, and leading choirs all his life. He was a member of Turner Christian Church and a member of the Grange for over 50 years.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, survivors include a son, Bob Wood (Sheri), of Grants Pass; a daughter, Mary Phipps (Dale), of Forest Grove; a sister, Barbara Gould, of Fresno, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A brother, Wilmer Wood, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Turner Christian Church, 7871 Marion Rd. SE, Turner, OR. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
