  • Jackie Agee's lead over Ashland City Councilwoman Carol Voisin had narrowed to 13 votes by the time a fresh batch of election results were posted Wednesday.
According to unofficial results posted at noon by the Jackson County Elections Office, Agee had 49.88 percent, or 4,648 votes, to Voisin's 49.74 percent, or 4,635 votes.
The gap between the two candidates has been narrowing since the first unofficial count was posted on Tuesday night, when Voisin was trailing by 133 votes.
Countywide, elections officials still have a few thousand ballots to tally, but those represent problem ballots that will be time-consuming to process, Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker said this afternoon.
Some of the ballots were not signed, others were rejected by voting machines, and some don't have signatures that match voters' signatures, among other problems, Walker said.
Jackson County will send out letters to the affected voters asking them to remedy the problems with their ballots by Friday, Nov. 16, she said.
Walker said a recount is automatically triggered if votes for candidates are separated by one-fifth of 1 percent or less of all votes cast in the race.
Voisin and Agee are separated by less than that amount, according to the noon count.
Recounts don't occur until 20 days after the election, Walker said.
In other council races, Rich Rosenthal retained his lead for council seat five with 42.48 percent of the vote to Regina Ayars' 38.93 percent and Bruce Harrell's 18.34 percent, according to the noon update.
Ashland Councilman Greg Lemhouse also was keeping his seat with 66.25 percent of the vote to challenger Keith Haxton's 33.52 percent.
