  • Dankook University's traditional dance troupe will present a free performance at Southern Oregon University's Music Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13. The program, "Open Our Hearts and Become One," includes 10 dances, each featuring colorful and elaborate costumes, and traditional Korean themes.
    The dancers are directed by Kim Hyun Sook, director of the Korean Society of Dance, dean of the Graduate School of Culture, Arts and Design, and director of the Cheonan City Dance Company. She also was the choreographer of the Korean dance performances during the opening ceremonies for the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Summer Olympics.
    The 14th annual International Survivors of Suicide Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Smullin Health Education Center, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford.
    Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. for registration. Donations are appreciated.
    The event will include an international conference, a memory table and a panel forum of local experts and survivors who will share their stories and ways to deal with the tragedy of suicide.
    The event is co-sponsored by WinterSpring, Columbia Care Services, Jackson County Youth Suicide Coalition, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

    The Jackson County Foster Parent Association is seeking donations and volunteers for its annual Christmas party for 150 children living in foster homes. The event will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, in Medford. (Details about the event have been omitted to ensure the safety of foster children.)
    The group is seeking donations of the following items: small knitted gloves or mittens, socks, stocking caps for infants and toddlers, hair accessories, Matchbox cars, costume jewelry, small games, playing cards, puzzles, toothbrushes and toothpaste, markers, crayons, colored pencils, small snack packs, cookies, crackers and granola bars, microwave popcorn, apples and oranges, individually wrapped candy and candy canes.
