  • C&K Market will shift a significant amount of its front-office operations to Medford beginning the first week of December.
The Brookings-based parent company of Ray's Food Place grocery stores will move real estate, construction, training and some of its human resources activity to the former Ticor Title building at 850 O'Hare Parkway in Navigators Landing near the Medford airport.
"We are kind of bulging at the seams here in Brookings," said Greg Sandeno, who has been grocery chain's chief executive officer since May 1. "We're getting to the size of company where it is kind of difficult to keep everybody at the size of facility we have in Brookings."
C&K Market operates 65 grocery stores and 13 pharmacies between Willamina in Northern Oregon and Cloverdale, Calif., including seven Ray's Food Place locations in Jackson County. It has nearly 1,500 employees. About 90 executive and staff members presently work in C&K Market's Brookings headquarters. However, several corporate-level employees living in Medford and Grants Pass make weekly trips to the coast.
"Right out of the gate there will be around 25 people in the regional office," Sandeno said, adding that about 80 people will still work out of the Brookings headquarters.
The new Medford office will cut costs for bringing both employees and suppliers to corporate meetings, Sandeno explained. It also will provide a central location for the company's real estate and construction teams as they fan out across the region, looking for communities that Ray's could serve.
