A Medford man was driving a pickup truck that crossed the Highway 199 center line this morning and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by a Cave Junction man who died in the wreck, authorities said.
The Oregon State Police this evening identified the driver of the pickup in the 10:57 a.m. wreck as David Hart of Medford, but no age was made available.
Hart was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram south on Highway 199 near milepost 7 when it crossed the center line, striking the driver's side of a northbound 1999 Ford Explorer, the OSP said. The impact spun the Explorer onto the highway's east shoulder.
The Explorer's driver, who was not named today, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An unnamed female passenger in the Explorer was taken by ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, the OSP said. She was not identified today.
Hart was taken by ambulance to Three Rivers, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Highway traffic was reduced to a single lane for about three hours during the crash's cleanup and investigation, police said.
