KANSAS CITY — The Southern Oregon football team rose to 10th in the latest NAIA poll and now looks ahead to its first playoff game since 2002.
The Raiders (8-2), who have won six straight, will play at No. 8 St. Ambrose in the first round of the National Football Championship Series in Davenport, Iowa, on Saturday. SOU, which defeated Montana Tech 46-28 on Saturday to clinch a share of the Frontier Conference championship, has never faced the Bees.
St. Ambrose finished the regular season with a 9-1 record in a three-way tie for the Mid-State Football Association Midwest League championship with William Penn (Iowa) and Grand View. The Bees received the conference's automatic bid by getting the highest ranking of the three teams in the NAIA poll.
The Raiders were previously ranked 12th. Georgetown (Ky.) is ranked first at 10-0.
In other playoff games, Bethel (Tenn.) plays at Georgetown, Ottawa (Kan.) at Missouri Valley, Montana Tech at Morningside (Iowa), William Penn at Saint Xavier (Ill.), Northwestern (Iowa) at Marian (Ind.), Baker (Kan.) at Saint Francis (Ind.) and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at Cumberlands (Ky.).
