Police release names from Highway 199 crash

Police released today the name of the Cave Junction man killed in a crash Monday morning on Highway 199 near Wonder.

Todd Weinkauf, 56, was driving northbound on Highway 199 at 10:57 a.m. Monday, when his Ford Explorer collided with a Dodge Ram 3500 van driven by Medford resident David Hart. A news release from Oregon State Police said Hart had drifted across the road's center line, and that Weinkauf swerved onto the shoulder to avoid hitting him head-on. The two vehicles hit driver's side to driver's side, and the Explorer spun onto the highway's east shoulder.

Todd Weinkauf was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Passenger Cameron Weinkauf, 64, was transported to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass with non-life threatening injuries.

All three were wearing seatbelts.

One lane of the highway was closed while OSP and the Oregon Department of Transportation investigated the crash for about three hours.
