  • Mark, 56, of Hayward, Calif. passed away November 6, 2012, at the Veterans hospital in Menlo Park, Calif. Born in Longview, Wash., February 29, 1956, one of four children when his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1960. They lived in Hayward and he attended school at Tennyson High. In 1971, his family moved again to an area near Central Point, Ore. known as Sams Valley where they lived on a small ranch and he attended Crater High School.
    In 1974, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Sunbird based in New London, Conn., and was discharged in 1977. He returned to Oregon and worked as a truck driver and in construction. He moved back and forth from Oregon to the Bay Area for the rest of his life. In the last few years he was living in Hayward and worked as a cement truck driver for Central Concrete.
    Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern (Vern) and Ilene Bain. He is survived by his sisters, Wanda Murphy, of Albany, Ore., and Sandra Stephenson, of Bend, Ore.; brother, Craig Bain, of Grants Pass, Ore.; and his extended family of John Desmond, of White City, Ore. and Dale Roos, of Hayward, Calif.
    Services will be held at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore. at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled Veterans of America.
