The theme of the 2012 Rogue Gallery & Art Center Member Exhibition, "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral," leaves plenty of room for interpretation. More than 50 local artists, all members of the gallery, will show an artwork illustrating one of the three categories.

"The artists looked at it like the '20 Questions' game as opposed to the literal themes," says Kim Hearon, the gallery's interim executive director.

Subjects include people, farm scenes, fish, birds, various plant life and even a llama and a hippo. Abstract artists tended toward the mineral idea, Hearon says.

The opening reception with wine by RoxyAnn Winery, cheeses by Rogue Creamery and treats by Harry & David will be from 5 to 8 p.m. this Third Friday, Nov. 16, at the gallery, 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford. For more information, call 541-772-8118 or see www.roguegallery.org.

Two other venues — the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center and Art du Jour — will be showing art for the monthly art walk.

Photography by Roy Musitelli will be displayed in the HEC. A reception for MUsitelli will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

"Home for the Holidays," a collection of wintery landscapes and festive paintings by gallery members, will be featured through November at Art du Jour. Participating artists are Pat Blair, Ruthanne Bray, Millie Clarke, Dodie Hamilton-Brandon, Margo Garnett, Gayle Gray, Georganne Happel, Ruth Heath, Judy Hubler, Boni de'Laire Kettering, Dixie Kinser, Yvonne Kitchen, Susie Lee, Ginny Matheson, Margery Mercer, Norm Rossignol, Robert Sharp, Dick Woods and Marilyn Zupan.

An artists' reception with refreshments will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 213 E. Main St., Medford. For more information, call 541-770-3190 or see www.artdujourgallery.com.

Several other downtown businesses and restaurants will be open and showing art for Third Friday.
