House surrounded, arrests made

One man is cleared from attic with pepper spray, later surrenders to police

Police surrounded a Medford home for six hours, starting Sunday night, before arresting four people who all were wanted on warrants for breaking parole.

Authorities first responded to the 1300 block of Siskiyou Boulevard just after 10 p.m. Sunday following information that the four occupants were wanted.

"There was information that they were armed, therefore we utilized elements of our SWAT Team," Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said.

Three of the home's occupants surrendered between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m. Monday. Police arrested Jason Morris, 32, wanted on a warrant for violating his parole following a conviction for third-degree assault. Brandy Rose Johnson, 22, and Jason Simcox, 34, were arrested on parole violation charges following convictions for methamphetamine possession.

After the trio surrendered, SWAT team members entered the home and found Kevin Maple, 28, hiding in the attic. Police used a pepper ball gun, which shoots pellets that discharge a substance similar to pepper spray, and fired a pellet into the attic space. Maple then fled the home and surrendered at 4 a.m. Monday. He was arrested on a warrant for violating his parole following a contraband conviction. "They're very well known to law enforcement," Budreau said.

All four were being held without bail in the Jackson County Jail. Budreau said numerous actions can result in violating parole, including not checking in with a parole officer or failing a drug test.

Police did not search the house because they only had warrants for the arrest of the four subjects.
