Klamath County DA Caleb will step down at year's end

Klamath County District Attorney Ed Caleb has announced he will step down from his position as of Jan. 1.

He said the pressures of the job as the county's chief prosecutor are exacerbating what he called "nonlife-threatening health issues." Caleb, 64, declined to provide further details.

"After talking to my family and putting a lot of thought into it, we came to the conclusion this would be the best course of action," he said.

Caleb said there are at least a couple of people interested in the job. When district attorney positions are vacated before an election, the governor is in charge of interviewing for them and making an appointment. The appointee typically runs for the office in the next election.

Caleb was appointed to the job in 1985 to fill a vacancy created when former District Attorney Rodger Isaacson left the job to become a Klamath County judge. Caleb won re-election to the post in the next election and has been re-elected since.
