Police arrest man who crashed a reportedly stolen car and ran

Police this morning arrested a 22-year-old California man they believe stole his ex-girlfriend's car Nov. 16 in Medford and wrecked it late Thursday on Highway 234's Rock Point Bridge before fleeing the scene, authorities said.

Officers used a police dog to track the suspect for three miles from the one-vehicle wreck before losing his scent early this morning, Oregon State Police reported.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies, however, caught up with and arrested the man late this morning at an unidentified location, according to Medford police.

Medford police identified the suspect as Keyontae Taylor. He faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fourth-degree assault and harassment, police said.

Officers have sought Taylor since Friday, when he escaped from a Crater Lake Avenue apartment in a 2003 Mitsubishi Gallant reported stolen the previous day from a residence on Tahitian Avenue in Medford, police said.

The car was loaned to him by his ex-girlfriend Nov. 15 but he failed to return it, police said. It was listed as stolen after he fled from an officer a week ago at the apartment, police said.

That vehicle sustained heavy damage in the 11:10 p.m. Thursday wreck, which closed the bridge near Gold Hill to traffic for about an hour, OSP reported.
