  • The search continues for a man suspected of firing a bullet into a Central Point home and then speeding away in a red BMW on Tuesday.
Jackson County sheriff's deputies believe Andrew Caucutt, 24, fired a small-caliber handgun at a home on Truax Road in Central Point on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies were called to a reported drive-by shooting at 3:40 p.m. in the 6000 block of Truax Road, the department said in a news release.
A witness told investigators that Caucutt, riding in the passenger seat of a red, 1993 BMW 3 series car, pulled out a small-caliber handgun and fired it at a residence. The car then raced away toward Central Point and was gone when deputies arrived.
Authorities soon named Caucutt, 24, of Central Point as a suspect and are searching for him.
They have searched several residences he is associated with and are looking for the red BMW 3. It has Oregon license plate 385 BSD and chrome rims, police said.
Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said investigators are looking into what sparked the incident.
"We are still interviewing witnesses in order to get an idea of what happened," she said.
Investigators thought they had a lead on Caucutt's whereabouts Tuesday night. They thought he might be hiding out in a home on Wilson Road in Central Point.
The agency called in a SWAT team to approach the house, but Caucutt was not inside, Carlson said.
The SWAT team was called because the danger level of apprehending Caucutt was elevated because he is believed to have a gun and has shown a tendency to use it, Carlson said.
Police asked anyone with information about Caucutt or the car to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Department at 541-774-6800.
