Suspect in drive-by shooting surrenders

A man who allegedly fired a small-caliber handgun at a house in the 6000 block of Truax Road in Central Point on Tuesday turned himself in to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department Friday.

Andrew Caucutt, 24, of Central Point, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on a charge of attempted second-degree assault and is being held without bail, according to a police news release.

A witness told investigators that Caucutt, riding in the passenger seat of a red 1993 BMW 3 series car, pulled out a gun and fired at the house, then the car raced away, police said.

The car, with Oregon license plate 385 BSD and chrome rims, had not been located. The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the case or the car is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 541-774-6800.
