Jackson and Josephine County residents will have a chance to discuss with legislators the needs of their schools during a community forum in Medford on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Legislators planning to attend include Rep. Peter Buckley, D-Ashland; Rep. Sal Esquivel, R-Medford; Rep. Dennis Richardson, R-Central Point; and Rep. Wally Hicks, R-Grants Pass. Also attending will be Jeff Scroggin, aide to state Sen. Alan Bates, D-Ashland, and Rob Saxton, the state's deputy superintendent of public instruction.
School superintendents and school board members from Medford, Ashland, Central Point, Phoenix-Talent, Grants Pass and the Three Rivers district in Josephine County also will participate.
The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the North Medford High School Student Commons, 1900 N. Keene Way Drive.
Child care and Spanish-language interpretation services will be available.
During the forum, participants will be able to share ideas about needed changes and learn about the outlook for school funding and changes the state is making in education policy.
Participants will work in groups to develop questions for the legislators in attendance.
The forum is sponsored by Jackson County Stand for Children, the Southern Oregon Education Service District and Southern Oregon school district boards.
