Josephine County man arrested on kidnapping, assault charges

A Josephine County man was arrested Saturday for allegedly kidnapping a 45-year-old woman from her home, forcing her into his vehicle and trying to flee.

Norbert Croft, 49 of O'Brien, is currently held in the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, and violation of a restraining order. His bail is set at $55,000, jail records show.

Oregon State Police received a 911 call from a woman reporting Croft was trying to take her from her home against her will before the phone disconnected. Police tried to call her back but couldn't reach anyone at the home until the woman called again, asking for medical help.

OSP troopers responded to the home, but found no one home. A 911 call from another witness reported seeing the vehicle that had driven away from the home stopped five miles away on Rockydale Road.

Police drove to the spot and arrested Croft. The woman had visible signs of minor injuries, but did not require hospitalization.
