The junior scored 46 points to lead RVA to the title in of the Pioneer Invitational in an 83-76 overtime win over Loma Linda. He was 14 of 20 from the field and 17 of 26 on free throws. He added 15 rebounds and five steals.
Kade Benton, St. Mary’s boys basketball
The junior played a fine all-around game, contributing 22 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for St. Mary’s in a 71-65 semifinal loss to Brookings in the Yreka Tournament.
Tamika Funk, Butte Falls girls basketball
The senior amassed 18 points, eight rebounds and 10 steals as Butte Falls defeated Canyonville Christian, 46-17, in the semifinals of the Canyonville Christian Tournament.
Casie Johnson, Eagle Point girls basketball
The senior led Eagle Point to an season-opening, 73-64 victory over Pleasant Hill in nonconference action. She had 25 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Kylie Towry, South Medford girls basketball
The senior poured in 22 points as the defending state-champion Panthers beat Westview, 70-67, in a rematch of last year’s 6A title game. Eight of her points, largely in transition, came in the fourth quarter.
