  • Less than a month after Southern Oregon's Stephanie Carr and Alyssa Bricker were named to the All-Cascade Collegiate Conference First Team the two have been named NAIA Honorable Mention All-Americans, the national office announced Monday.
"Obviously it's an ecstatic moment for our team and program and a fitting end to the postseason recognition period," SOU head coach Jon Clement said. "We're really proud of Brick and Steph — they're very deserving and they're truly a product of their own effort."
Carr earns the recognition for the second consecutive year after becoming the first Raider in program history to be named All-American last season. She was previously named CCC Offensive Player of the Year after tying for the conference lead with 13 goals and setting new SOU career records in goals (36), game-winning goals (14), points (77) and shots (212).
"I don't think it's unfair to say Steph is one of the cleanest players in the league," Clement said. "Her technical proficiency is at a very elite level, and it's great to see someone recognized for playing the game with great skill and creativity as opposed to an overwhelming physical dimension."
Bricker started all 18 matches for the Raiders in 2012, helping to anchor an SOU defense that allowed 1.16 goals per contest during her junior campaign. She led the team in minutes by 120 this season, playing 1,539 to provide a constant presence in the back field.
"She's nails defensively," Clement said of Bricker. "She's just about one of the top challengers around, amazing in the air and has the ability to stroke around these professional-length passes. There were games this year where she just rose up."
The duo helped lead SOU to a 9-6-3 overall record in 2012, including an appearance in the CCC tournament semifinals for the third consecutive season. Both have played a vital role in elevating the program in the past several years and expressed pride in both their individual and team accomplishments this season.
"I'm proud of my hard work that once again I have something to show for the work I put into it," Carr said. "I'm really proud of our team this year and the season we put together. I'm very disappointed that I won't be playing again, but all in all I'm proud that I could be part of the Southern Oregon women's soccer team and I wouldn't change anything."

The Southern Oregon men remained No. 16 while the SOU women inched closer to the top 25 as the NAIA Division II coaches' polls were released Tuesday.
The SOU men improved to 8-3 overall this season and 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play with a pair of road wins over Northwest Christian and Corban last weekend. Southern Oregon remains in the 16th spot for the second consecutive week after ranking 23rd in the preseason poll.
The Raider men are the third-highest ranked CCC team, behind No. 2 Eastern Oregon and No. 13 Warner Pacific. Northwest ranks 20th to give the league four ranked teams. Southern Oregon takes a break from conference play this weekend, traveling to Redding on Saturday to face Simpson at 7:30 p.m.
The SOU women continued its strong start to the season with a pair of double-digit road wins over Northwest Christian and defending conference champion Corban. The Raiders were picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll and did not receive any votes in the preseason NAIA poll, but have earned a 10-1 record going into this weekend's nonconference games against Simpson on Saturday and California Maritime on Sunday. Eastern Oregon leads the way for the conference in the women's poll in the 10th spot, with College of Idaho ranking 22nd.
