A Central Point man was injured by a gunshot this afternoon when a co-worker was showing him a just-purchased gun and the weapon accidentally discharged, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said.
Howard Jenks, 44, was looking at a new .40-caliber handgun 24-year-old James Record, of Sams Valley, had just purchased at around noon when the gun went off. The single shot struck Jenks in the hip. Both men were at work at Maverick Motorcycle Repair, 4495 Table Rock Road.
Jenks was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment. Hospital officials said he is still receiving treatment in the emergency room, but has not yet been admitted. His condition was unavailable.
The case has been forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review. No charges have been filed at this time, the sheriff's department reported.
