Morin, Southern Oregon take down Seattle in shootout

Luke Morin's shootout goal lifted the Southern Oregon Spartans to a 5-4 victory against the Seattle Totems in Western States Hockey League action Friday at The RRRink.

Morin, the Spartans seventh and last shooter, scored on his penalty shot to give the Spartans a 3-2 edge in the shootout.

The game was tied 2-all after two periods.

Southern Oregon (11-7) tallied goals by Nick DeSimone and Robby Gervino early in the final stanza to give the Spartans a 4-2 lead. But the Totems (8-12) rallied to tie the game on Petr Novak's unassisted goal with just over one minute remaining in the match.

Ryan Devine and Tyler Dunn were the Spartans other goal scorers in regulation.

Casey Mertens scored two goals for Seattle in regulation and also converted in his shootout attempt.

Mike Kowicki and Marcus Fred also had goals in the shootout for the Spartans.

Seattle took 31 shots to Southern Oregon's 29.
