KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Superior Stingray swimmer Breanna Sapienza finished in 12th place with a time of 54.55 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly 'B' final at the Speedo Short Course Junior National Championships on Friday.
During qualifying at the University of Tennessee, the 17-year-old Sapienza took 16th place in the 100 fly with a time of 54.90. The top eight advanced to the 'A' championship final, where Osprey Aquatics' Linnea Mack won with a time of 53.02. On Thursday, Sapienza was 91st in the 50-yard freestyle qualifying round, logging a time of 24.10.
Sapienza will compete in the 100 freestyle and 200 fly events today.
As a sophomore with Cascade Christian last year, she secured Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state titles in the 50 free and 100 fly.
