Alexander L. Stevens, 49, of Medford, Ore. passed away in Medford, December 3, 2012. He was a native of Santa Cruz, Calif., born March 13, 1963, graduating Harbor High in 1981.
He played, coached, lived, and breathed soccer. He opened Santa Cruz Soccer Shop in 1983, and later Rogue Soccer in Medford; Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii; and Las Vegas, Nev. He was a licensed soccer coach for California and National teams. Alex played on the San Jose Earthquakes development team from 1984-1987. His passion took him to Germany often, especially to Bad Salzuflen and Bexterhagen where he played and coached. He was head coach/founder of the Santa Cruz Excel Soccer Club; founder of Southern Oregon University's club team in Ashland; and several boy's and girl's teams in Oregon. In 1985-1986, he was coach of Watsonville's Athletico U-16 Boy's Northern California State Champions.
Celebrations of his life will be held in Medford, Santa Cruz, and Germany, dates to be announced. He is survived by Carli and Stanley Stevens, Nikolas (K.D. and Dani) Stevens, Brooke Stevens, Jack Rich; and numerous aunts and cousins.
