    "Get a job"?
A lot of people on assistance have jobs, or are unable to get one right away. I agree that people on assistance should be monitored, but the idea of limiting those in need to bags of rice and beans and powdered milk must come from a very selfish person. — Kari Farmer, Medford
So many grads want to park their PhDs in front of Bill Gates' house and do one thing forever. My first job was pulling weeds for an elderly couple for 5 cents and a handful of jelly beans. I later worked as a paper boy 365 days a year, and the most I made in one month was $77.
I have never met Bill Gates, but he has not 1 cent of my money. I use 411, the Yellow Pages, write letters, talk to people on the phone and use stamps to pay bills. I don't own a computer and I never will.
I make EZ-Walk shoe cushions and Overtime sports clocks. I have submitted to Walmart. Wish me luck in my products. I would like to get off disability. I am an Air Force veteran who loves my freedoms. — Scott Morgan, Medford
Mr. Shulster claims that Israel is treated unfairly, noting that 25,000 rockets have hit Israel in the past eight years.
He fails to mention that those rockets were of the pea-shooter variety. Noam Chomsky writes: "According to U.N. reports, 2,879 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire from April 2006 through July 2012, while only several dozen Israelis were killed by fire from Gaza." That is horrible, but "unfair?"
But Chomsky has been stigmatized as a "self-loathing Jew," so his views may therefore be ignored. — Gerald Cavanaugh, Ashland
I am so tired of sick humor! The freedom of cats is more important than the sanitation and beauty of gardens and bird-watching.
A dog gets shot or a cat gets burned and someone goes to jail. You do have the right to kill your unborn baby!
You can marry the same sex and insist on special benefits provided by those who don't share your values.
A man collects rainwater on his on his land and faces prosecution. Drug users get arrested and released because of overcrowding.
Prayer and the Ten Commandments are taken out of public view because that's their right. We're told to change our convictions to elect government leaders. We want Godly leaders to guide our country — that's our right!
Many will soon cry because the promises made were unrealistic. Our country is an embarrassing mess.
Thank you Charmaine for your inspiration regarding the Operation Christmas Child shoe box drive — money better spent than on contraceptives! Thank you Ron for providing a better review of the election than any other news media!
Maybe it's time for something better. Secede! — Connie L. Johnson, Medford
Does Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge have the right to choose, or would the world be outraged at the thought of the royal baby being aborted? Isn't every baby royal? — Suzanne Robinson, Talent
