Roberta Marie Hill, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, December 13, 2012. Roberta, a lifelong resident of the Rogue River Valley passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Otis Hill, of Ashland, Ore.
Roberta was born in 1920 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Medford, Ore. to Mable Marie Wertz and Lester Harvey Wertz.
Roberta graduated Central Point High School in 1937 and earned her teaching certificate from Southern Oregon College of Education and her bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. She began her career teaching in the elementary classroom. After completing a master's degree from Southern Oregon College, (now SOU), she implemented the Title V reading program for the Eagle Point School District from which she retired in 1980.
She is survived by her sister Norma Jean Bennett of Climax, Ore. and her children, Lester Hill of Eagle Point, Ore. and Judith Ward of El Paso, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura Adams, Jane Chawla, and John Sperry. She is survived by her sister-in-law Marie Peterman of Sutherlin, Ore.
And, last but not least, she is also survived by her first great-grandson, Rijik Chawla of Austin, Texas who was able to visit with her in Eagle Point this past summer at the age of six months.
An active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she will be missed by many and remembered by all for her kindness, generosity, and her love of people.
A memorial service for Roberta will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 42 Alta Vista Road, Eagle Point, Ore. The service is scheduled for December 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m.
