Paul M. Mathews passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at Arbor Place Assisted Living in Medford. He was born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan, Canada May 1, 1925. In 1931 he moved to Spokane, Wash. with his parents and two brothers. They eventually moved to Wenatchee, Wash. where Paul went to school.
Paul joined the U. S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged having served from 1943 to 1946. In 1957 he moved to Ashland, Ore. where he started an appliance repair service. In 1961 he moved to Coos Bay, Ore. where he owned City Appliance for 12 years. He returned to Ashland, Ore. and later married Jean Bushnell May 31, 1975 in Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Paul was Past Exalted Ruler of the Ashland Elks Lodge #944, having received many awards, his most favorite being Elk of the Year in 1974. He also was Past President of the Medford Eagles Lodge #2093, having received their Outstanding Service Award. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Medford.
Paul lived in the Rogue Valley over 55 years. He loved RV'ing, hunting, and fishing.
Paul's parents, twin brother, and younger brother preceded him in death. He leaves a step-daughter, Carol Ann Engle, of Phoenix, Ore.; granddaughter, Denice Maxwell; two great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson, all of Portland, Ore.
There will be a private spreading of Paul's ashes by his family and a Remembrance gathering will be announced at a later date.

Jean M. Mathews passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Avamere Three Fountains in Medford. She was born June 12, 1929 in Eagle, Colo.
Jean (Bushnell) married Paul M. Mathews on May 31, 1975 in Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Jean was an accomplished vocalist and musician and sang at many weddings and lodges. She was active in the Elks, Eagles, and Moose Lodges. She loved to RV and fish. She loved music, life, and had many friends.
