Hard-working parents want children to experience joy

Toys, games and clothes would help this young family have a jolly holiday.

Sammy and Mary are a young couple with four kids. Head Start staffers say they are "working so hard to better themselves."

Mary is the first to attend college in her family. She has been going to Rogue Community College full time, working her way toward getting her certified nursing assistant license after United Way's Hope Chest funds helped pay for the testing fees. Unfortunately, due to debts, the cost of child care and daily living, Mary is unable continue with school at this time. She must go to work.

Sammy works full time in a laborer position. He wants to get his GED and continue his education, but he can't because he is busy working as many hours as he can.

To save on costs, the family is moving from their rental home this week and in with Mary's mother and sisters.

With Christmas so close, Sammy and Mary are finding themselves in need of assistance to bring Christmas to their young family.

Jessie is 9 years old "and is such a big help to Mom and Dad," staff say. She wears size 10 girls clothes and size 4 shoes. Jessie loves Barbies, "Monster High School" and arts and crafts.

The younger three, Alex, 5, Tommy, 3, and Sue, 1, are in Head Start and Early Head Start.

Alex wears size 5 clothes and size 11 shoes. He loves Spiderman action figures and games.

Tommy wears size 4 clothes and size 9 shoes. He loves remote-control cars and trucks, and all "electronic-type gadgets."

Little Sue wears size 12-months, size 2 shoes, and she really needs new clothes. Perhaps a few age-appropriate toys, too, Santa.
