A winter storm has prompted several Northwest school districts to close or delay school Monday morning and left thousands without power.

Schools in the Gorge, Cowlitz and Linn County, and Marion and Polk County were affected among others.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the Cascades in Lane County; Northern Oregon Cascades.

Forecasters also issued a winter weather advisory for the Central Coast Range of Western Oregon; Coast Range of Northwest Oregon; Northern Oregon Cascade Foothills.

Many other areas were under a high wind advisory. The wind advisories are set to expire at 1 p.m.

Both are set to expire at 6 p.m. Monday.

Pacific Power reported more than 7,000 were without electricity due to the high winds Monday morning. Those affected are in Clatsop, Coos, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Linn and Polk counties, according to the company.

Portland General Electric reported more than 4,500 without power in Clackamas County and more than 2,100 in Multnomah County. PGE officials said several hundred more were affected in Marion, Polk, Yamhill and Washington counties.

The Cowlitz Public Utilities District reported more than 500 were without power.
