    Siskiyou Velo Club
    Some of the Siskiyou Velo club rides listed below are leisurely while others are intense. All rides provide rest stops for coffee and social time. All riders are required to have safe bikes, wear helmets and carry a spare tube/tools and water. Instruction and support are available on all rides. No rider is left behind.
    Every Saturday: Velo Slo-Mo rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. Pace: 7 to 10 mph over 12 to 18 miles of mostly flat terrain. Contact: Austen Meek, 541-482-0930.
    Every Saturday: Velo Mello rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. Pace: 11 to 13 mph over 18 to 30 miles of slightly hilly terrain. Contact: Sandra Wetzel, 541-482-2995.
    Every Saturday: Velo Ship rides begin at various morning hours from different locations. Pace: 13 to 15 mph over 28 to 40 miles with long climbs. Contact: Jean O'Donnell, 541-488-6186.

    Every Monday: Coffee rides begin at 10:30 a.m. at Colver Park in Phoenix and go to Jacksonville. Pace: 17 mph average over 25 miles. Contact: David Chapman, 541-488-0152.

    Other recurring rides
    Every Sunday: Cycle Analysis, 535 N. Fifth St., in Jacksonville hosts a 2- to 3-hour road ride at 8 a.m. All fitness levels welcome.     Every Tuesday and Thursday: Mountain-bike rides organized by the crew at Ashland Cycle Sport, 191 Oak St., Ashland. Meet at the Plaza in Ashland at 6:30 p.m. Riders of all abilities are welcome on the Tuesday ride. The Thursday ride is usually longer (2 to 21⁄2 hours) and faster paced.     Every Wednesday: Starting at 6 p.m., Cycle Analysis, 535 N. Fifth St., hosts a two-hour mountain-bike ride on either the Britt trails in Jacksonville or nearby John's Peak, which has almost 200 miles of trails.     Every Saturday: Ride starts at Medford Cycle Sport, 1340 Biddle Road, and the course varies from week to week, but riders can expect a brisk road ride that lasts 2 to 4 hours.     Rogue Valley Audubon Society
    Thursday, Dec. 27: Ashland Christmas Bird Count. The co-leaders for this count are Harry Fuller, who will organize birding teams for the 10 areas of the count circle, and John Bullock, who will be the compiler for the count.     Winter Whale Watch Week
    Wednesday-Sunday, Dec. 26-30: The annual event occurs at 24 “Whale Watching Spoken Here” sites along the Oregon Coast. Roughly 18,000 whales cruise past Oregon on their annual southbound migration, and trained volunteers will be available at these sites from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily to help visitors learn about the whales' migration and feeding habits, and offer tips on how to spot the whales.
