    Monday, Dec. 31: Finish the year with a 10K walk in Gold Hill. Meet at 9:45 a.m. at the post office on 2nd Avenue. This walk has a shorter 5K option. For more information, call 541-245-9356.

    Friday-Sunday, Jan. 11-13: Weekend outing at Mt. Shasta Nordic Center will include Saturday lessons for beginners and intermediates, and an introduction to skate skiing, along with unorganized skiing and social activities.     First Day hikes
    Tuesday, Jan. 1: Valley of the Rogue State Park will be one of 22 Oregon state parks offering special hikes and free parking on New Year's Day. From noon to 3 p.m., an easy hike of three miles along the Rogue River Greenway is planned. It will offer opportunities for birding, tree identification and ecological observation. Dogs are allowed on a leash. Hikers should bring water, snacks and binoculars. Most of the “First Day Hikes” will be led by a park ranger or volunteer.
