Reducing landing fees could attract more carriers

Medford airport landing fees have been reduced for the second time this year in a move that local officials say could attract more airlines locally.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday approved reducing fees from $2.98 to $2.74 for each 1,000 pounds of weight for airlines that have a long-term contract with the airport.

Planes that don't have a contract with the airport will pay $3.56 per 1,000 pounds, down from $3.87.

The new fees take effect Jan. 1.

Landing fees are charged to commercial and business aircraft not based at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport, regardless of weight. Other aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds and not based at Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport also are charged the fees.
