Mail Tribune makes top 10 nationally for sports websites

The Mail Tribune landed top-10 national recognition for its sports websites in judging by the Associated Press Sports Editors.

The Mail Tribune general sports site and its high school site, varsity541.com, were judged in the smallest of three divisions, those with under 500,000 monthly users. The other divisions were 500,000 to 1.9 million and over 2 million.

The Mail Tribune was one of three papers in its division west of the Rockies. The others were Yakima, Wash., and Marin, Calif.

The sites were judged over two dates, randomly selected by the contest chair. Judges selected a top 10 in each category as well as honorable mentions.

Ashland placed two players on the Class 5A second team in voting by coaches. Senior RJ Atteberry made it as a defensive back and junior Mason Montgomery as a linebacker.
