Fire destroys rural home

Fire destroyed a two-story home in the 6700 block of Coleman Creek Road early Saturday, but all six people in the home got out safely, Jackson County Fire District No. 5 officials said.

The fire was reported at 4:46 a.m. Saturday, said fire district Capt. Vince Lockett. The caller said the house was full of smoke from a fire that appeared to have started in the basement.

Firefighters arrived to find the home fully ablaze. The fire burned from the basement up through the first floor, destroying the home, Lockett said.

Lockett said the fire was believed to be accidental, but the exact cause was undetermined. He said a wood stove had been removed from the basement, but the common chimney was still in use on the main floor.

The Red Cross was notified to help the family who lived in the home. County property records list Barry and Carol Moore as the owners.
