  • LAKE OSWEGO — In the absence of its leading scorer, the Crater girls basketball team turned to sophomore post Olivia Ryerson and she answered the call in the final game of the Nike Interstate Shootout.
Ryerson came off the bench to spark the Comets with 14 points and nine rebounds as Crater wrapped up a 48-34 victory on Sunday.
The Comets (4-4) finished with a 2-2 record in the four-day, 32-team tournament.
Ryerson was efficient and effective in the post, connecting on 7 of 10 shots. She scored six points in the fourth quarter and added three steals.
"We called on her and she responded well," said Crater coach J.T. Thomas, who was without star Courtney Setzer. "I'm so proud of her. We were struggling on the boards until she came in.
"In this program, we rely on team and it was a next girl up kind of a game."
Brittaney Scott, who went off for a career-high 24 points and made seven 3-pointers in a win against Salt River of Arizona on Saturday, was the primary defensive focus of Sunset. Scott, however, managed to still put up nine points on 3-for-5 shooting. She also registered six steals, five assists and four rebounds.
The Comets also received six points, four steals and three rebounds from Monica Heard off the bench.
