Vandals hit Grants Pass nutcrackers

Vandals damaged two of Evergreen Federal Bank's Nutcracker holiday displays over the weekend.

Grants Pass police received a report of vandalism at two separate sites on Saturday morning.

The display of three Nutcracker figures in front of ShopRiverRock, 966 S.W. Sixth St., were knocked off the base while a Nutcracker figure had its arm torn off in front of Sandi's Candies, 145 S.W. G St. The damage is considered minor and likely to total less than $1,000.

The group of three Nutcrackers appears to have been pushed over and the base it was bolted to damaged, Evergreen's Marketing Coordinator Melissa Vierra said.

"All three of them are bolted together," she said.

"There has been no significant damage. We decided to bring that display in a few days early since all the Nutcrackers will be coming down in a few days," she said.

Vierra said the base will have to be rebuilt or repaired. She hasn't seen the damage to the other figure.

"They must have unbolted the arm and yanked it off," she said.

"We have a few extra parts, so it will be easy to repair. We will be able to fix them up and be ready for next year."
