Crater Lake snowshoe hikes
Through April 28: Crater Lake National Park offers free, ranger-guided snowshoe hikes every Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. The walks last two hours and cover about 1 mile of moderately strenuous terrain through the forests and meadows along the rim of Crater Lake. Participants should be at least 8 years old, in reasonably good physical condition, and come prepared with warm clothing and water-resistant footwear. No snowshoeing experience is necessary. Snowshoes are provided free, and the park does not collect an entrance fee in the winter. Space on each tour is limited, and advance reservations are required. Groups of 15 people or more (such as school groups, outdoor clubs and church groups) may be able to arrange for a separate tour for their group on weekdays or weekends.

Rogue Valley Walkers

Sunday, Jan. 20: Low-elevation hike to the Illinois River to explore serpentine ecosystems and riparian forests. Frostbite Run
Saturday, Jan. 19: Sixth annual 5K and 10K event starts at 9:30 a.m. at Madrone Trail Public Charter School, 3070 Ross Lane, Central Point. The 5K course is out and back on Ross to Hanley. The 10K goes out and back on Ross to Hanley to Beall. Cost is $12 if registered by Jan. 15; $10 for SOR members. After Jan. 15, it's $15 all runners. Siskiyou Velo Club
Some of the Siskiyou Velo club rides listed below are leisurely while others are intense. All rides provide rest stops for coffee and social time. All riders are required to have safe bikes, wear helmets and carry a spare tube/tools and water. Instruction and support are available on all rides. No rider is left behind.

Every Tuesday and Thursday: Mountain-bike rides organized by the crew at Ashland Cycle Sport, 191 Oak St., Ashland. Meet at the Plaza in Ashland at 6:30 p.m. Riders of all abilities are welcome on the Tuesday ride. The Thursday ride is usually longer (two to two-and-a-half hours) and faster paced. Every Wednesday: Starting at 6 p.m., Cycle Analysis, 535 N. Fifth St., hosts a two-hour mountain-bike ride on either the Britt trails in Jacksonville or nearby John's Peak, which has almost 200 miles of trails. Every second and fourth Wednesday: Ashland Bicycle Works hosts a two-hour MTB night ride the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. The group pedals up Tolman Creek to access the Mount Ashland trails. The route is always changing and dependent on the group. You can expect great company and a moderate pace. All are welcome.
