  • PHOENIX — The second time wasn't a charm for the Phoenix girls basketball team.
    Mazama, which beat the Pirates by 26 points in a nonleague game last Saturday, downed Phoenix 64-41 in the Skyline Conference opener on Friday.
    Hannah Reynolds had 16 points and Megan Morris 14 points for the Vikings (11-2, 1-0 Sky), who led 35-16 at halftime.
    Bailee Tally recorded 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals and Kasey Hamilton scored 12 points for the Pirates (7-4, 0-1), who missed a pair of layups late in the second quarter just after Tally knocked down a momentum-building 3-pointer. Mazama finished the first half with a surge, adding to a lead that Phoenix chipped away at in the second half.

    Schmoll added five assists and four steals while Pittman pulled down seven rebounds. Kayla Mohr grabbed 11 boards for the Knights (6-6, 1-0 Sky).
    Hidden Valley (2-8, 0-1) was led by Morgan Hansen's 10-point effort.

    Jazmine Hancock led Illinois Valley (7-5) with 14 points and Kim Crow added 10.
    Amanda Arcularius added 10 points for Lakeview (8-3), which snapped IV's four-game winning streak.
