  • SALEM — By the time the Cascade Christian boys basketball team found its rhythm against Blanchet, it was too late.
    The Cavaliers raced out to a big lead and defeated the Challengers 64-46 in the Crusader New Year's Invitational third-place game at Salem Academy High on Saturday.
    Cascade Christian (6-4) managed just one field goal and five made free throws in the first half, when it trailed 28-7. The Challengers outscored Blanchet (11-4) by three in the second half.
    "In the first half we struggled offensively again," Cascade Christian head coach Brian Morse said. "We did a much better job shooting and had better intensity in the second half."
    Alex Miller scored 13 points and Cody Coggins and David Sellers each turned in 11 points for Cascade Christian.
    Brent Counts led the Cavaliers with 16 points.

    RV ADVENTIST 70, PROSPECT 47 — At Prospect, Micah Neufeld continued his hot streak with 21 points and Caleb Allen added 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Rogue Valley Adventist to the Mountain Valley League win.
    Jonathan James added 15 points and Jonathan Alvarez had 10 assists and eight points for the Red Tail Hawks (8-1, 3-0 MVL).
    Kevin Baker had 16 points, Boston Ehlers 11 and Isaac Reynolds 10 to pace Prospect (3-5, 0-3).

    Butte Falls had 12 of its 16 turnovers in the second half as the Timberwolves (10-1, 4-0 MVL) increased their defensive pressure, and Triad's Thomas Holland and Gabe Ovgard each scored eight points in the period. Holland finished with 23 and Ovgard 17.
    Evan Givens scored 12 points and had eight rebounds and two steals for the Loggers (3-8, 2-2), and Jared McGonagle grabbed nine rebounds.
