Man faces charges for allegedly raping teen

16-year-old victim was recovering from surgery, on pain meds

A Medford man was indicted last month on felony rape and sexual abuse charges for allegedly raping an acquaintance several times while she recovered from surgery, according to court records.

Kevin Patrick Henry Thomas, 18, of Medford, has been charged with nine counts of first-degree rape, a Measure 11 offense, and three counts of second-degree sexual abuse. Court documents allege the incidents took place between Sept. 4 and Sept. 30. They allege that the 16-year-old victim did not consent and could not defend herself because she was recovering from surgery and under the influence of prescribed pain medication.

Thomas is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $500,000 bail. Court records do not show a prior criminal history in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department arrested Thomas on Dec. 21, 2012. He has a pretrial conference scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, in Jackson County Circuit Court, court records show.

Prosecutors and sheriff's officials declined to comment on the case as it is ongoing.
