Woman arrested after police chase

Tasha Dietrich, 26, of Central Point faces numerous felony charges

A Central Point woman faces multiple felonies after crashing a stolen vehicle on Interstate 5 following a brief police chase Tuesday afternoon.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department received a call Tuesday afternoon that Tasha Dietrich, 26, had stolen a pickup in Gold Hill.

The victim apparently saw Dietrich walking the streets of Gold Hill intoxicated. The man picked Dietrich up to give her a ride. At some point, the driver left Dietrich alone in the pickup, during which time she jumped into the driver's seat and locked all the doors. She then sped away.

The victim then got in his girlfriend's car, which was parked nearby, and began following Dietrich.

Soon, a sheriff's deputy located Dietrich driving south on Interstate 5 near milepost 27, just outside Phoenix. When the deputy attempted to stop the stolen car, Dietrich punched the gas and led the deputy on a brief chase.

The stolen pickup reached speeds of 90 mph before rear-ending a 2005 Dodge Neon driven by Justin Hascall, 29, of Phoenix.

Hascall was transported to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. Dietrich also was transported for nonlife-threatening injuries and was expected to remain hospitalized overnight.

She is charged with third-degree assault, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude police in a vehicle, injury hit-and-run, first-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

The crash slowed traffic on the freeway for more than an hour Tuesday evening.

Oregon State Police officials are investigating the case.
